Congratulations to Laurie Ross for her winning entry in the St. Petersburg group of Scott Kelby's Worldwide Photo Walk! In honor of her win, I asked her 20 questions:
Tell us about you?
Laurie Ross is a St. Petersburg native living in the Crescent Lake area with her partner, Hungarian Vizsla and 6 finches.
Have you been shooting long?
I've been taking pictures since my first photography class in high school. So maybe a few years.
What got you interested in Photography?
I Like the stories that a photo can tell, the emotions that can be evoked. And especially the joy on someones face when they are viewing a photo they like or a photo they think is beautiful. And I love looking at photographs myself.
Any specific genres you enjoy the most?
I love macro and Black and White photography. It's so interesting to get in close and get detail and texture.
Do you have a vocation other than photography?
I'm a Physical Therapist Assistant working for Palms Home Care.
If you're not a pro, do you aspire to be one?
Yes. I always want to have fun and I really have fun taking photos and pleasing people with the results.
Are there any photographers whose work you admire (besides me of course)?
Yes, I really do admire your work Chuck! Your wide angle HDRS are the best I've ever seen. Also, I admire Ansel Adam's work (BW zone system began my love of black and white photography.) Annie Leibovitz (the women's got guts!) William Wegman (He took a subject he loved and did great things with it)
What do you like best about photography?
The digital photography world is the best! Being able enhance, control, change things exactly the way I want them, to my liking and interpretation. This has opened everything up fo me. There is a real freedom in this type of creative expression.
Is there anything you dislike about photography?
Can't think of anything.
Where was this image shot?
During the World Wide Photowalk in St. Petersburg, FL. This is the front window at the Mansion House Bed and Breakfast.
What caught your eye?
The reflections of light and color, the curtain, the flag reflection, the delicate nature of the window and just the overall beauty of the building itself.
Does it mean anything to you?
It's lovely and moody and beautiful.
Was there anything about this image that made you choose it to upload over the others you shot?
It's lovely and moody and beautiful;-) I just liked it.
Camera, lens, aperture, shutter speed, etc?
Sony A-100 SLR, 300mm macro lens, ap 11, HDR
Anything special about the lighting, equipment used, etc?
This was a High Dynamic Range (HDR) shot with a tripod.
How did you do the post production?
Photomatix generated HDR with tone mapping and then Photoshop, curves, contrast, vibrance and saturation then cropping.
Software used?
Photomatix and Photoshop CS4
What are you future plans in regard to your photography?
To continue having fun, meeting fun photographers and enjoying my craft.
Is there anywhere we can see you work either online or galleries, museums, etc?
