Gear Snob

A slang term used to describe a person who tends to classify photographers based on the type of equipment they use. Also known as an Equipment Snob.

Gear Whore

A slang term to describe a person who purchases a lot of photographic equipment.

Grain

A granular appearance of an image. Graininess is usually caused by faster, more sensitive ISO settings. In digital photography, grain is referred to as Noise.

Grid

A device used to direct light into a narrow beam. Usually described in degrees.

Guide Number

The guide number for an electronic flash measures its ability to illuminate the subject to be photographed. A higher guide number indicates a more powerful flash.
