Files Won't Open after Save As

Hello Chuck. I have a question about saving in Photoshop. I was editing some shots last night and did nothing unusual, did what I always do, and when I saved the edited jpeg and went to look at it, it was saved as a text file! I cannot figure out why this is happening. I did some editing on Friday and everything was just fine. I went back through my steps with a "throw away" image and lo and behold, another text file when it saved! Any ideas? I'd really appreciate any help you can give.

The file is missing the extension ".jpg" so the computer doesn't know what kind of file it is. Add the extension .jpg to the file name and it will open just fine.

What may have caused it is in the Photoshop preferences. In Photoshop go to Photoshop Preferences and choose File Handling. There's a option to add extensions to file names or not. Make sure it is set to Always. Like this:

Hi Chuck,

Just want to ask you if its advisable to un-install version 3 of adobe photoshop, before installing the up-grade Version 4 of adobe photoshop?  The reason I ask: will there be any unforseen issues relating to plug-ins, such as Nik Software complete, and a few others?

Nope, no need to uninstall. You will probably need to move your filters from the filters folder inside the CS3 folder to the same folder inside the CS4 folder.
